Over the last few weeks I’ve been sharing simple ways you can spruce up your home while sheltering in place! Today’s idea (No 5) is one of my FAVORITES!! It’s sooooooo simple (ok ok it’s simple if someone else installs it) BUT it’s a simple decision that makes a HUGE impact…I am here to help you live your best bunker life after all!
P.S. Another name for wallpaper is wall covering and I use them interchangeably.
I usually use traditional wallpaper that requires paste and skills – which you can totally do!!
OR
You could experiment with peel and stick!!
With either option – YouTube is your BEST friend!! Seriously, there are a ton of helpful videos and tutorials!!
Now hear me out! Not all wallpaper is as crazy as the ones I use! LOL! In fact, wallpaper can be VERY simple and a great way to add coziness and depth in a subtle way!
The photos below show how cozy a grasscloth wall covering can make room!
A grasscloth wall covering adds instant depth to a space. Honestly, sometimes paint feels flat and it falls short when you’re trying to make a space feel cozy. It’s crazy how adding a simple texture can make a huge impact.
Now, if you’re you’re up for it – using a colorful patterned wallpaper is my secret weapon for taking a room from boring to eye-catching. It’s so amazing to see a plain-Jane room be transformed in a few hours.
Want something in between a crazy pattern and seagrass? Try a geometric pattern or simple repeat pattern in a neutral color. The room above is a great example. We wanted the space to feel cozy but wanted something a little funkier than seagrass.
* Pottery Barn has peel and stick seagrass! * Spoon Flower has a ton of peel and stick options! * Hygee and West is another favorite for both peel and stick and traditional wallpaper. * Surface View is AMAZING!! Like beyond! |
* Designers Guild has amazing colorful options that are AMAZING! * Schumacher has a ton of great geometric patterned options and seagrass options. * Hygee and West is another favorite for both peel and stick and traditional wallpaper. * Kravet has some great cost effective options – my favorites are by Kate Spade!! * Katie Kime – I love her sort of 60’s regency vibe! |
When you go for a pattern wallpaper thats background color is something other than white (like the above) BUT you’re too afraid to do the entire room – I suggest painting the walls (that won’t be wallpapered) in a color that you either pulled from the wallpaper or that coordinates in some way.
If you just leave the adjoining walls white when the wallpaper is dense and colorful – it looks unfinished. Now, if the wallpaper’s back ground is white – than leaving the adjoining walls white totally works!
I hope this helps and I hope you add a wall covering somewhere in your home! Even if it’s a small powder room or a closet! It’s soooooooo satisfying and will make your heart and eyeballs sing!
